My company is asking me to go back to work — in the office! I started working for them during the pandemic, and we worked from home full-time from day one. The other members of my team have begun to work in the office already.

I like this company and hope to stay longer – but I just want to work from home.

Any suggestions?

Dear Work from Home,

I understand your stress. We all have preferences, but ultimately the company decides. Did they promise you that you would always work from home? See if your manager or HR can help fulfill that promise if they did make one. Find out what conditions they have to allow you to work remotely.

On the other hand, if they didn’t promise and cannot accommodate your request, you need to be ready to work face-to-face. If you can’t do that, it’s time to search for a new work-from-home opportunity.

You do not own the company, honey, so get that bum moving and go work in the office.

Alternatively, find a new job that requires you to stay at home. There are a lot of full-time and freelance jobs out there that pay well.

It’s your call.
